From Shelf to Standout: Elevating Uponor’s Retail Presence at The Home Depot

The Ask

Uponor is the world’s #1 brand for PEX-A plumbing systems among professional installers, but you wouldn’t have known it from their shelf at The Home Depot. Their bay had minimal branding, signage positioned too high to engage shoppers and nothing to communicate why a professional-grade PEX-A system was worth the premium price.

Uponor needed more than a refresh. They needed a retail story that could speak to a DIY homeowner, win over a professional installer and make a strong enough case for The Home Depot merchants to roll it out to more stores. They turned to Porchlight to make it happen.

The Work

Porchlight approached the challenge in two closely related phases, both anchored in a clear strategic goal: Translate Uponor’s professional credibility into a retail experience that earns trust and justifies premium pricing at the point of decision.

Phase 1: Packaging & PDQ Trays, PIPs and Video

Before a shopper ever reaches the shelf, many of them are researching online. Uponor’s existing product pages weren’t doing the brand justice. Porchlight conducted a comprehensive review of Uponor’s current Product Information Pages (PIPs) and assets for three key SKUs: pipe, brass fittings and EP fittings. From there, the team identified opportunities to improve visual appeal, sharpen messaging and better communicate value in a competitive digital marketplace.

Porchlight developed creative direction for photography, refreshed copy (including names, descriptions, overviews and feature bullets) and produced up to 10 product tile images per SKU. To bring the products to life in context, the team designed and built a custom set: a fully configured under-cabinet environment complete with a stainless-steel sink, copper supply lines and drain assembly. The set served as the backdrop for both photography and video production.

The creative work culminated in three 30-second installation videos, one per SKU. Each video walks viewers through real product usage step by step: cutting PEX-A pipe, placing expansion rings, connecting to a copper sweat adapter and completing the full assembly. The videos were designed to build confidence at the point of decision, speaking equally to the DIY homeowner and the trade professional comparing options in the aisle.

Phase 2: In-Bay Visual Merchandising at The Home Depot

With product content strengthened, Porchlight turned its attention to the physical retail environment. Working within The Home Depot’s visual merchandising requirements, the team concepted, designed and rendered a full point-of-purchase (POP) signage system built around three messaging pillars:

  • #1 Choice of Pros: establishing authority for shoppers who may be unfamiliar with Uponor
  • Professional-Grade Credibility: communicated through certification badges, lifestyle imagery of professional installers and direct product callouts
  • Flexible. Durable. Built to Perform: a clear, confident product promise that speaks to both DIY remodelers and light Pro installers

The process began with concept sketches exploring signage placement across the full bay, followed by copy development and POP layout design. Porchlight then developed multiple fully rendered 3D concept variations, each exploring different combinations of header signage, brand imagery, icon bars and lower-bay POP placement. The concepts ranged from bold product-forward executions to lifestyle-driven approaches featuring professional installers in action, giving Uponor and THD stakeholders a clear set of options to react to and refine.

The final presentation-ready renderings were built for internal leadership review and potential submission to THD merchants for approval and rollout. In a second phase of graphic execution, Porchlight applied final Uponor branding and messaging to completed structural renderings, producing a polished, high-resolution presentation layout that told the full retail story from a merchandising standpoint.

Throughout both phases, the guiding principle remained the same: Don’t just simply meet THD standards, but stand out from the generic aisle environment while doing it.
